How do Marketplace plans protect me from high medical bills?

  • Out-of-pocket maximum. Each plan limits what you pay for covered in-network care in a year. For 2027, it can't be more than $12,000 for one person or $24,000 for a family. Your premiums don't count toward this limit.
  • No yearly or lifetime dollar limits. Plans can't cap what they spend on essential health benefits.
  • Cost sharing. On average, Bronze plans pay about 60% of covered costs, Silver about 70%, Gold about 80% and Platinum about 90%. What you pay depends on your plan's deductible, copays and coinsurance.
